ABOUT

Introducing a new Tasmanian outerwear collection inspired by the raw beauty of the Tasmanian environment and it’s urban architectural landscape. Isla is a reimagining of our islands chosen garment for the modern, conscious wardrobe. Crafted from carefully sourced recycled fabrics and technical thermal insulation made from recycled plastic bottles, ethical and environmental responsibility is at the heart of our production. Isla creates fresh, genderless takes on climate dressing with minimalist designs, bold limited-edition colours and silhouettes that border the experimental.

THE DESIGNER

Isla is an independent Tasmanian outerwear brand founded by designer & product developer Emily Bye. Over 15 years in Melbourne’s fashion industry, Emily honed technical skills working in independent fashion studios and for more established brands.

Disheartened by the gradual shutdown of the local manufacturing industry for cheaper offshore operations, Emily is determined to keep Isla’s production onshore in support of Australian manufacturing.

A move to Tasmania in 2015 from Melbourne’s urban sprawl was transformative. Climate dressing is a part of life here on this beautiful, rugged island and the puffer jacket is it’s chosen garment. For Emily, this project is an ode to Tasmania.

FASHION FOR GLOBAL CLIMATE ACTION. A brand statement.

Isla is aligned with the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement and towards net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with keeping global warming under 1.5 degrees.

Recognizing the critical need for cities, regions, companies and investors from around the globe to help implement the Paris Agreement and accelerate the transformative change needed to reach greenhouse gas (GHG) emission neutrality (i.e. climate neutrality) in the second half of the twenty-first century, Isla supports the vision outlined in the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action.

We express our intent to implement the principles enshrined in the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action and commit to working collaboratively with our peers and relevant stakeholders to develop, implement and enhance the climate action agenda in fashion.

More information about our commitment can be found here.

We are a new brand, and every decision we make or have made so far in developing our business aligns with the goals of the UN Paris Climate Change Agreement. We aren’t perfect, but every day through every decision we consider our climate impact. Here’s what we’ve done so far.
